Volunteer Firefighter
The Snyder Volunteer Fire Department welcomes individuals who want to serve the community and gain valuable emergency response skills. No prior firefighting experience is required to become a volunteer firefighter.
Training and Entry Requirements
As a new volunteer firefighter, you’ll begin with introductory (rookie) training offered locally through the Snyder Fire Department. This training provides the foundational knowledge and skills needed to safely participate in fire and emergency response.
- New members serve as probationary firefighters
- You have one year to complete introductory-level training
- Training is designed to help you learn while actively serving
Advancement and Certification Opportunities
The Snyder Fire Department offers ongoing training so volunteers can advance beyond introductory training. Opportunities include:

- Firefighter Level II
Some advanced training is offered locally, while additional courses may be available through approved online programs. Volunteers pursuing higher certification levels typically complete this training over several years.
EMS and Additional Credentials
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) certification is not required, but many volunteers choose to pursue additional credentials, including:
- EMT, EMT-Intermediate, EMT-Paramedic

These skills strengthen the department’s response capabilities and provide professional development opportunities for volunteers.
