The Snyder Fire Department (SFD) operates as a unified organization, combining both full-time career personnel and qualified volunteers to provide exceptional fire protection and emergency services to the City of Snyder and Scurry County.
Fire Chief - Nathan Hines
The Snyder Fire Chief, appointed by the City Manager, is the top fire official responsible for leading the Snyder Fire Department. In this role, Chief Hines oversees all aspects of the department, including the Fire Marshal's Office and the Office of Emergency Management. His leadership ensures the safety and well-being of the community through fire prevention, emergency response, and public safety initiatives.
Chief Nathan Hines brings extensive experience and dedication to the Snyder Fire Department. His service milestones include:

- Deputy Fire Marshal Appointment: December 5, 2015
- Assistant Chief: August 8, 2022
- Interim Chief Appointment: November 2023

Administrative Staff
The administrative team supports department operations, logistics, and community engagement.
Fire Marshal – Patrick Haggard
Oversees fire investigations, inspections, and code enforcement to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations.
Emergency Management Coordinator – Jay Callaway
Leads disaster preparedness efforts and coordinates emergency response planning for the city and county.
Command Staff
The command staff oversees the daily operations of the department, ensuring a coordinated approach to emergency response, training, and fire prevention.

Volunteer Firefighters & Paid Personnel
The Snyder Volunteer Fire Department is a critical part of the SFD, with approximately 25 volunteer firefighters serving the community. These dedicated individuals, along with the paid staff, ensure round-the-clock fire protection and emergency response.
The municipal department employs 12 full-time career firefighters, who are certified through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. These firefighters handle the city’s fire protection services, as well as provide leadership in critical emergency situations and training programs.
Training and Certification
Both paid and volunteer personnel undergo extensive training to maintain high standards of service and safety. Many members are certified training instructors, ensuring continuous development for the department.
- Paid Personnel: Certified through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
- Volunteer Personnel: Certified through the State Firemen’s and Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas, with certifications in Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazmat Awareness, and Hazmat Operations.
