[ARCHIVED] “Visioning Workshop” and Open House Meeting

The City of Snyder will host a Visioning Workshop and open house meeting on Monday, February 16th at the College on the Square from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. All residents of Snyder, businesses, and other interested persons are invited to participate in this important meeting regarding the future of the City.

As part of the citizen involvement for this important project, the City has scheduled an open meeting to set the stage for this long-range plan. When finished, the Comprehensive Plan will guide the Mayor, City Council and City staff as they make important decisions about infrastructure and utilities, streets and sidewalks, growth and development, and other important functions of the City. The last comprehensive plan regarding the City’s future was undertaken in the 1970s and has helped guide the City for three decades, but now needs to be updated to respond to new market and growth conditions. As such, there will be many needs that must be prioritized and incorporated into a 20-year long-term strategy and improvement program.
The open house will focus on receiving citizen ideas and opinions regarding future land use; community growth and infrastructure; transportation improvements; and community character, beautification, and amenities. This is a great opportunity for Snyder residents and business owners to consider such questions as:

• How much and where should Snyder grow?
• How can we strengthen Snyder’s economy?
• How do we preserve our uniqueness and valued small town atmosphere?
• What street and other infrastructure improvements are needed?
• Are new parks, trails, and green spaces desired and where?
• What are our highest priorities as a community?

In an informal, open-house atmosphere, attendees will participate in round table discussions and help develop ideas to make Snyder a great place to live. The outcomes of this meeting will help guide recommendations of the Comprehensive Plan and prioritize city actions. Door prizes and light snacks will be provided as an incentive to attend.

The plan development process is being led by Halff Associates Inc., consulting planners who are helping the City put the plan together. For more information about the plan or the upcoming Visioning Workshop, please contact David Nicholson with the City of Snyder at 325-573-8988.
