[ARCHIVED] Snyder Police Department Media Release

                                                                                                                   January 18, 2025

On Wednesday, January 16, 2025, at about 11:00 PM Snyder ISD school board members received an email that contained threats towards Snyder ISD.  Including in the email the suspect(s) responsible for the threats provided a name, which we believe is fake, along with an address in Dallas, TX.   Snyder ISD staff immediately contacted the Snyder Police Department, and an investigation started immediately.

During this investigation, multiple agencies were involved including Snyder PD, Dallas PD, Texas DPS, FBI, and Homeland Security Investigations.  Information was obtained that the address in Dallas, TX is involved with a group of people that are responsible for swatting incidents across the United States.

Swatting is an act of deceiving emergency services into sending a police or emergency service response team to another person's address.

We believe the email intended to obtain an emergency response to the address in Dallas, TX because of this residence involvement in these swatting incidents across the United States.  At this time, we do not believe there is, or ever was, a threat to Snyder ISD.   This investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time.
