Snyder's historic Ritz Theater will be the site of the first John Wayne Film Fest (JWFF) Labor Day Weekend September 2-5, 2011. 72 nonstop hours of John Wayne's movies will play - all day and all night - beginning Friday at noon. Nightly, a John Wayne film will be featured on a giant 20x40 outdoor screen provided by Alamo Drafthouse of Austin (bring lawn chairs, BYOB). John Wayne family members and other guests will be in Snyder. Larry McMurtry - Pulitzer-prize winner best known for Lonesome Dove, Terms of Endearment and Brokeback Mountain - will introduce the outdoor movie, The Searchers, on Friday night. Saturday’s outdoor movie is Veterans Night with Sands of Iwo Jima and Sunday night is The Cowboys.

-John Wayne Impersonation Contest (Jr. and Sr. divisions), 12:15pm (Gazebo at the Square)
-Trap Shoot (4-person teams), 1pm (Old Rodeo Grounds) ($50 pp/$200 team)
-'Brown Dinner' for event sponsors and special guests, 6:30pm, (Belle Opry House— advance tickets required—will sell out)
-Sunset Outdoor Movie: Sands of Iwo Jima (Veterans Night) (York Place @ 8:30pm)
-Dance featuring Jody Nix and the Texas Cowboys, 10pm (Belle Opry House) $10
