AUSTIN — Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples has presented the city of Snyder with the 2010 Hardworking Rural Community Tall Texan Award.
"The citizens and leaders of Snyder exemplify what can be accomplished when people work together to implement fresh ideas for the common good of their community," Commissioner Staples said. "The Tall Texan finalists can be proud of leading the way in promoting rural Texas."
The Tall Texan awards, an honorable mention category of TDA's Hardworking Rural Community Awards, are part of TDA's efforts to market and promote rural Texas while raising public awareness of efforts to boost tourism, job growth, leadership, mentoring, community development and other economic opportunities.
Snyder (population 10,076) is located 90 miles from Lubbock, Abilene, San Angelo and Midland and is home to more than 300 wind turbines, which contribute to the economic foundation of the community.
