Planning & Development Services

The Planning and Development Services Department oversees development in the City of Snyder. With its four divisions - planning, engineering, building permitting and inspections, and code enforcement - the department plays a vital role in shaping the city's growth. It guides the development process to ensure high-quality land use that aligns with the goals outlined in the City's Comprehensive Plan. 

Additionally, the department enforces codes and regulations, which serve to protect property values, maintain development standards, and ensure the safety of both residents and visitors. Through these efforts, the department works to balance growth with community needs, ultimately contributing to the overall quality of life in Snyder. Our core responsibilities include:

• Ensure a safe and healthy environment by enforcing regulations on property maintenance, building practices, and FEMA Floodplain Regulations
• Uphold and interpret zoning regulations, process change requests, and maintain community standards for planned development
• Review, evaluate, and ensure compliance of proposed residential, commercial, and other development projects
• Keep comprehensive records of all building, plumbing, and electrical permits issued
• Verify proper licensing and insurance of all contractors and tradespeople working within the City
• Maintain current City maps, including zoning, land use, infrastructure updates, and floodplain areas
• Conduct regular inspections to verify compliance with building codes and safety standards
• Facilitate public engagement through hearings and informational meetings, providing guidance and resources on building and zoning requirements
• Collaborate with other City departments to ensure coordinated and efficient development efforts
